Last Fall my little family of four went on an adventure to the summit of Hawksbill Mountain. My husband and I hiked with our boys on our backs (huge shoutout to the Osprey Poco Child Carriers – wouldn’t have been possible without this genius invention!) and met Tara and Ray at the top for a photo session.
The Hawksbill Mountain Hiking trail did not disappoint! It was about a 1.5 mile trek round trip and the views were incredible. We happened to be joined by a couple who had eloped (thanks, Covid) complete with a band playing the most romantic folk music in the background (think Mumford & Sons or The Avett Brothers).
We stayed until the sun started to set, loaded up, and headed down the mountain in the dark. Tara was prepared for this moment with a headlamp. Hiking downhill in the dark is no joke! Meanwhile the rest of us newbs used the lights from our cell phones to make our way back down the mountain trail. (Guess what our boys got for Christmas??? Dinosaur and Bear shaped headlamps!)
If you are ever up for an adventure outside of Boone and just shy of two hours from the Triad, we highly recommend Hawksbill Mountain to be at the top of your bucket list!
